Captain's Diary #1 - The Thought behind the Invitational

How it all started

I have been enjoying hosting tournaments for several years now. It all began with the first Manta Cup in November 2021. At that time, my decision was driven by the dissatisfaction I felt with existing weekend tournaments. Often, they were unbalanced, and the format wasn't ideal.

After successfully hosting the second and third editions of the Manta Cup, I joined the SLE Moderation team in October 2022. I later became a moderator in January 2023 and, eventually, one of the two Co-Owners in March 2023. In the summer of that year, I also organized the Sanctuary Cup, an internal tournament aimed at determining the best Sanctuary Team.

I played a significant role in shaping Split 4 & 5 of the SLE, heavily influencing the format creation process.

Content Creation

During Split 4, I began to find joy in crafting community content for the SLE. It began with weekly articles known as "SLE Weekly" and was later expanded to include features such as Team of the Week, Custom SLE Cards, and Weekly Power Rankings.

Engaging in content creation always added a special dimension to the tournaments for me. The fourth Manta Cup, which took place about a month ago, stands out as the tournament with the most content created for it. While it was an enjoyable experience, it also proved to be exhausting, as content creation inevitably attracts individuals who dislike it and are vocal about their opinions.

The Pirate Bay Invitational

After the 4th Manta Cup, it became evident to me that it would be the last Manta Cup. Black Manta was dissolved, and it concluded on a positive note.

My new tournament project is called the Pirate Bay Invitational, closely linked to my current team, the Black Flag Sailors SNC. I plan to host it whenever the inspiration strikes me. The format, ranked regulations, rules, etc., will also vary from tournament to tournament, allowing for different experiences under the same event name.

The first Pirate Bay Invitational is scheduled to take place on February 17th and 18th. It will feature a classic 4-team double elimination tournament with a Bo3 format for all matches, except for the Finals which will be played as a Bo5. All matches are planned to be streamed and casted.

Although the slots for this tournament are already filled with Black Flag Sailors SNC, Assassins & Greed SNC, Black Lotus E-Sports SNC, and Primordials, future tournaments are already in the planning stages for the summer and winter of this year.

In future entries, we will delve into the teams that were invited.

Pirate Bay Invitational 2 We are creeping close towards the second Pirate Bay Invitational. The last one happend ~2,5 months ago. Since then the four Teams of the first edition played (and got eliminated) in the SLE. Now we are back with a brand new format and rule set: The Teams Every Team that participated in the first Pirate Bay Invitational got an invite to this one aswell. Black Flag Sailors SNC, my team, of course will play again. In addtion the reigning Champion Assassins & Greed SNC and the Bronze-Medalists Black Lotus Esports SNC decided to come back. Only the danish side of Primordials declined the invitation. The three new teams include the two Sanctuary Teams (who are playing in the SLE against each other right now) Snek Pack SNC and Wacky Wraiths SNC and SlimOdds. The Championpools Prior to the start of the tournament each team had to chose 25 different champions they want to pick in the PBI. Captain's Diary #5 - Botlane Gaming

Botlaner Black Flag Sailors SNC When I decided to create this Team, I invited Chwischi, who I know for over 8 years, to join. I was sceptical at first, since he was kinda stagnating in Black Manta at the end of that team. But he has completly suprised me and many other people with his recent performance. I'm really happy to be on a team with him again. His Support is Moppo. I knew Moppo as a Substitute for UBTenacity, where he won a silver medal at the 3rd Manta Cup. He came into my mind as a potential Support and he has proven himself over and over again. Black Lotus Esports SNC Fabianhgw was the Support on the last BLE Roster and I've always seen him as an engage supporter, with some really high highs and some low lows. I've only talked to him once or twice and don't really know what role he plays for his team. His counterpart is Shousakyu, who was introduced to me as ''the star adc'' of Black Lotus. Good bye to Snek Pack's Hero The next team on our list is Snek Pack SNC, another Team of the Sanctuary community. Another Team that didn't participate in the first Pirate Bay Invitational. Brief History 7 Years ago Evoh, Saibottob and Sushiekiller decided to play together competetivly. In their early days they played in the German University League for the ''Kieler Robben'' (Ger. Seals of Kiel). That was also the time when Cupcake joined the team. Later on they joined the Gaming Community SFD-Gaming, where they found their Coach BeardedMonke, under their new name ''Snek Pack''. They were not really happy with SFD and in late 2022 they decided to leave. A few months later, together with their long-time rival Black Manta, they founded Sanctuary, in March 2023.
